Castlefoot swim 03/09/11
Ullswater camping trip
Kingfishers swimming club organised a club camping trip for a week to lake ullswater in the lake district. this was a great oppurtunity to make new friends in the club and strengthen team bonds. There were games every night, rounders being the favourite, there were several walks, one being an hilly seven miles on a unusaly scorching day, but even the younger children were quite happy to plod along and the following day some of us swam in lake ullswater, including some of the parents, which was a soothing break from the heat!!
This inspired me to get into open water swimming at the freezing wykeham lakes and later do the castle foot!
Castle foot swim 3/09/11. The castle foot swim is a 1.5mile sea swim from Scarborough's north bay to the south. It is attempted once or twice a year by members of the kingfisher swimming club open water team.
The record, set by channel swimmer David morgan is 31minutes 26 seconds. This year there were five successful castle
foot swims. Savannah mackenzie 11yrs: 53mins 33seconds
Mary-beth Hebron 12yrs:53mins 37secs Erin hope 13yrs:
41mins 40seconds and Jane sedman (adult) doing breastroke: 47mins 57secs.
I did it in a time of 33minutes and 38seconds, just two minutes shy of the record, so i am determined to beat it next year!
Swimming in the sea is hard work with the waves and the weed can be quite frightening at first, it was bitterly cold and tasted awful but overall it was a really great experiance. Our thanks goes out to the boat crews without whom it would not have been possible as each swimmer needs a canoe to be able to get close to them for guidance at all times and the motorboat in case of any emergancy.
